Tips for Tracking Your Checked Baggage
Whether you intend to or not, having to check your luggage is a necessity and part of regular airline travel. To help minimize disruption to your trips, we want to provide some tips when it comes to the baggage you take with you on your upcoming trips:
Consider only carry-on baggage, if possible. The easiest way to ensure you'll have your luggage upon arrival is to never let it leave your side. This is also beneficial because you can switch to another flight/airline in the event of a delay or cancellation, and there will be no concern of being separated from your bags.
If you are carrying on, board the plane early. Overhead bin space fills up, so you may be forced to gate-check your bags if you board late and the overheads are full.
If you will be checking bags, we strongly recommend investing in Apple Air Tags or Tile Tracker (both are also available on Amazon). These two products are geolocation tracking devices that link to your cell phone. Place the tracker in your checked bag so you can always locate it. Then in the event of an airline losing your luggage, you can show them the exact location of your bags so they know where to look. You can even track your bags prior to your flight to ensure they've made it on the same plane as you.
When checking bags, keep any potentially necessary or valuable items with you inside your carry-on (e.g., medication, phone charger, laptops, jewelry, ID/passport). We've had several folks separated from their bags for several days, so ensuring you have your most needed items with you is important.
