TripIt: User Guide

What is TripIt?
TripIt is a third-party Itinerary Manager that TravelWealth uses to share the details of your upcoming trips. It does not allow you to manage your reservations through the platform (so no flight check-in, no seat selection, etc.). Instead, think of it like an old-school paper itinerary, but this one also updates in real-time and gives you access to some helpful features to make your travels easier.

How do I access TripIt?
Download the TripIt app on your smartphone/tablet or access TripIt.com on a browser. If you already have a TripIt account, you can continue to use it. We just need to know which email is linked to your account. If you do not have TripIt, we will create an account for you. To access your new account:

  • You will receive an email from TripIt. Click the link in the email to verify your account.

  • We will send you the login credentials that we used to create your account. Feel free to reset your password. TravelWealth does not need access to your TripIt account.

  • If you end up with multiple TripIt accounts, you can combine them into one by going to Account > Account Management > Merge Accounts.

Should I pay for TripIt Pro?
No, you do not need to pay for TripIt Pro. Once you access your TripIt account, you may be offered an upgrade to TripIt Pro, which will provide additional features for your account. The most notable feature is that TripIt Pro monitors your reservation and notifies you of any changes. But when TravelWealth creates the trip and links it to your personal TripIt account, you automatically get the Pro benefits for that trip. If you want any of the other TripIt Pro benefits for your personal use or if you plan to add trips to your account that were not created by TravelWealth, then you may want to consider upgrading.

What information will I find in TripIt?
It can be overwhelming the first time you look at TripIt because there is a lot of information at your fingertips (and it’s admittedly not always intuitive). Here are some important things to note as you explore the app/website:

  • Reservation Details: Click on each individual item in the itinerary for more information on your bookings.

  • Record Locators: Your primary Record Locator is labeled as “Confirmation” and can be found at the top of each individual item in the itinerary.

  • Passengers: Click on the flight > scroll down to the bottom > select Passengers. Do not confuse “Travelers” (at the bottom of the main itinerary page) with the Passengers (“Travelers” only refers to the TripIt account holder who is linked to the itinerary).

  • Multiple Record Locators: When a group is booked on multiple Record Locators for the same flight, the item will appear in the itinerary multiple times. Use the Passengers tab to view the passengers booked under each Record Locator.

  • Flight Monitoring Alerts: Starting 72 hours prior to your reservation, Tripit will monitor flights for delays, changes, and cancellations. The TripIt app will send push notifications to keep you updated. However, we encourage you to check-in online and review the flight details directly with the airline to confirm the most up-to-date information.

  • Gate/Terminal Info: TripIt updates the Gate and Terminal assignment as flight information becomes available. TripIt will also provide Airport Maps for your convenience.       Seat Selection: TripIt does not update seat selection automatically. As such, we generally do not add the seat information to your TripIt itinerary. To view your seating assignments, check directly with the airline.

  • PDFs: Access any documents we need to share with you, such as train tickets, tour vouchers, etc.

How do I add my own notes and reservations to the itinerary?
There are two ways to add notes and reservations to the TripIt itinerary that TravelWealth created for you. Automatically import reservations by forwarding a confirmation email to plans@tripit.com (the email must be sent from the email linked to TripIt - you can link additional emails to your TripIt account in Settings). You can also manually add reservations (from the App, click on the specific trip, then click the Pen/Plus button in the bottom right; from the website, click “Add Plans”).

Can I link TripIt to my personal calendar?
This is one of TripIt’s most valuable features for many users. TripIt can link and automatically upload itinerary details to your personal Google, Apple, or Microsoft Outlook calendar. To learn how, click this LINK.

Can I print my itinerary?
Yes, you can create a PDF version of the itinerary through TripIt’s website or mobile app if you want a formatted hard copy for your records. However, we encourage you to use the TripIt app while traveling so you receive updates on any changes, delays, or cancellations in real-time.
